Our Practitioners

An Introduction To The
Licensed Religious Science Practitioner

“There is nothing to heal, only God to reveal.”
Ernest Holmes

What is a Practitioner?

Religious Science Practitioners are professionals who have dedicated their lives to the work of God. Practitioner work is serving humankind and assisting others to realize and recognize who they really are – a divine child of God. Since every apparent negative condition is caused by a temporary belief or feeling of being separated from the Divine, the Practitioner's work is to know the Truth about his/her client. That Truth is always rooted in recognizing the Oneness, the unity of all.

Licensed Practitioners of Religious Science are, among other things, Spiritual Consultants. As such, they are trained in knowing how to work with their clients through any situation. They are a resource with whom you can work to address any appearance of discord or disharmony in your life (or in the life of someone for whom you care), be it an issue with health, prosperity, relationships, career, and other life challenges. Practitioners are here to serve.

Ernest Holmes, the founder of Religious Science, states on page 59 of the Science of Mind Textbook, “A practitioner consciously removes the apparent obstruction, and leaves the field open to a new influx of Spirit. He resolves things into thoughts, dissolves the negative appearance in the condition, by recognizing only perfection. The practitioner must know, and must state, that there are no obstacles in the pathway of truth. He must know that his word, being the activity of the Truth, removes all obstructions from the pathway of his patient, or the one for whom he is working.”

What kind of training do licensed Practitioners have?

Licensed Practitioners of the United Church of Religious Science have completed a minimum of three hundred (300) hours of accredited class work. Of this, one hundred, eighty (180) hours are dedicated to specific Practitioner preparation, development and training. The class work includes:

  • Science of Mind (SOM)
  • Foundations (45 hours) SOM II — Self Mastery (30 hours)
  • SOM III — Treatment and Meditation (30 hours)
  • SOM IV — Roots of SOM (24 hours)
  • Practitioner I (90 hours)
  • Practitioner II (90 hours)
Generally, this class work spans four (4) years. At its completion, each candidate must take a five (5) hour written exam administered by an officiating representative of the United Church of Religious Science plus an oral exam hosted by Ministers and Practitioners of Religious Science. Only after all of these requirements have been successfully completed are the candidates licensed by the United Church of Religious Science. Each Practitioner must thereafter complete 250 continuing service units every two (2) years and provide two notarized demonstrations of their prayer treatment work in order to qualify for license renewal.

How do I choose a Practitioner?

Spirit will lead you to the Practitioner who is right for you and your situation. You are encouraged to speak with each Practitioner and decide with whom you feel most comfortable. You may find that you work with one Practitioner on one issue while you are more comfortable with another as you work on other areas of your life. What process should I follow to meet with a Practitioner? For non-crisis counseling, we recommend that you contact the Practitioner to set up an appointment. Appointments can be held at the Church, at the Practitioner's residence or at another location mutually agreed upon by both you and the Practitioner. Phone sessions may also occur when face to face sessions are not possible. Be assured that any request for prayer treatment left on voice mail will be addressed by the Practitioner. For counseling during a crisis, you may call any of the numbers listed below. If you are in crisis and you get an answering machine, call another listed Licensed Practitioner to ensure we can serve you immediately.

Is there a fee for Practitioner Services?

Yes, the United Church of Religious Science requires Practitioners to charge for their services. It is a profession for which Practitioners invest significant resources. Many Practitioners do this service work as their full-time employment. However, no one will be turned away. Regardless of your ability to pay, the Practitioner will work something out with you. Fees may vary so you should ask each Practitioner about their personal fee schedule prior to or during your counseling session.
