The New Year brings a desire to start fresh, to be different, to make all things new. In 2 Corithians 5, Paul reminds us that we ARE new and informs how that newness changes us. Today's sermon will provide some principles for taking hold of that newness and a platform for making All Things New in 2012 for us and the people around us.
This follow up lesson to "The Prodigal God" notes that while all of us by nature are "younger brother types" (pleasure seekers) or "older brother types" (merit-earners), the radical third way that Jesus introduces in Luke 15 is to be "grace-based Christians" whose satisfaction and self-esteem are based on the love of God expressed through the gospel, rather than on sin or self-improvement.

Based on the book, "The Prodigal God", by Timothy Keller, this lesson explores the parable normally known as "The Prodigal Son" and notes that the word, "prodigal" does not mean "wayward" but actually means "recklessly spendthrift", so it applies to the younger son’s sinful ways, but even more to the father's "recklessly spendthrift" love for both sons in the parable, hence the name, "The Prodigal God".
