Tampa Bay Church

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the Tampa Bay Church the church for me?
Absolutely!  No matter who you are, where you are from, where you live, or where you are spiritually, we’re convinced that once you spend time with us you’ll start to feel at home.  You’ll find, in the shadow of the cross of Christ and the bright light of His resurrection, we all have more to unite us than to divide us.

A little bit about the Tampa Bay Church
We enjoy being Christians only and living as brothers and sisters in the family of God.  We worship Him together, in small groups, and individually.  That means you’ll see many people at our sunday worship services, but you can worship with a handful of Christians in our small groups we call “House Churches”.  We love being together in any setting but we also know that meeting the needs of one another and those in our local communities can best be accomplished as a church of “small groups reaching a big world.”  I’m sure we have a small group near you.

Where are you located?
Our Sunday Worship Services are at 4pm, at St. James United Methodist Church.  We also have midweek services there the second and fourth Tuesdays of the month at 7:30pm.  The first and third Tuesday or Wednesday of the month we meet in small groups called House Churches. Find a small group near you. We look forwarding to greeting you at either place.

What are your services like?
On Sundays, we sing to God and one another, we take communion together, and we hear inspiring and practical messages from the Bible. We typically meet at 4pm each Sunday at St. James United Methodist Church with services that typically last around 90 minutes. We may change the hour or location for special events so please check our calendar for the most up-to-date information.

House Church midweek services occur every 1st & 3rd week of the month when we meet together in one another’s homes in small groups with the intent of encouraging one another on a more personal level.  These groups have various meeting times and dates of the week so please feel free to contact a house church near you for more details.  Typically, House church lasts about an hour and you’ll be looking forward to the next time you get together.

“All-Church” midweek services occur every 2nd and 4th Tuesday of the month at St. James United Methodist Church all together for a briefer song service and more in-depth bible lessons.  These services begin at 7:30 and typically last around 90 minutes.  Our All-church midweeks are sure to provide great topics of conversation during the fellowship afterwards and throughout your week.

We also have men’s devotionals at St. James United Methodist Church every 5th Tuesday, Middle School events, Teen devotionals, and Campus events, all in various locations around Tampa Bay.  Please be sure to check our calendar for dates, times, and locations for this month’s events.

How do I become a member?
We believe that the church is simply a body of believers who have become true disciples of Jesus.  If you want to be a part of this body, the first step is to study the bible to find out what Jesus expects of His followers.  To set up a personal bible study or to attend a group bible study in your neighborhood, contact a member of our staff or the small group closest to you.

What’s expected of first-time visitors?
Nothing! You’ll find people dressed like you whether that means shorts and a t-shirt or a suit and tie.  Sing loudly or quietly when we sing together as you get to know the words and the music. You are welcome to take communion with us or not.  Hey, it’s your first time and we need to get to know each other.  You’ll have plenty of opportunities to ask more questions or get more information as you get to know us.

What kind of church is this?
We are a non-denominational,independent church in an interdependent worldwide brotherhood and are committed to the biblical model of self-governing leadership. We seek fellowship with, and council from, churches with whom we are doctrinally unified in matters of salvation. We believe in working cooperatively with these churches toward our shared goal of evangelizing the world.

What does the Tampa Bay Church have for my kids?
We want to make sure that both children and adults enjoy an encouraging and inspiring time each Sunday.  We sing together as families with our kids right alongside us.  So for the first 30 minutes or so we are all together.  We have a brief break for fellowship when parents take their kids to our secure and closely supervised Kingdom Kids program for infants through 5th graders, allowing parents to attend the worship service, while children enjoy an age-appropriate time with their peers.

In addition, we offer middle school classes and high school classes on a rotating basis so our older children can be part of a complete worship service every other week while enjoying more age-specific classes on alternating weeks.
